In August, 2014, a video of the public execution of American photojournalist James Foley rippled across the globe. Foley wore an orange jumpsuit as he knelt beside an ISIS militant dressed in black. That image challenged the world to deal with a new face of terror. And it tested one American family. Seen through the lens of filmmaker Brian Oakes, Foley's close childhood friend, Jim takes us from small-town New England to the adrenaline-fueled front lines of Libya and Syria, where Foley pushed the limits of danger to report on the plight of civilians impacted by war.

Directed by Foley’s childhood friend Brian Oakes, the doc does raise some difficult issues – albeit very tactfully.

A heartfelt, if slightly unreflective tribute to Foley, focusing on the strength he drew from his family and faith, although his private life and relationships are not touched on, and it does not provide an analytical context for Foley's work.

It is so important that people have courage to tell the story of people caught up in conflict in both words and pictures. The interviews with others in captivity with Foley show the depth of human spirit under terrible conditions. Interviews with family and fellow journalists offer an insight into a unique and sinular man, thank God people like Jim Foley are in the world.
