An interesting, though altogether uncompelling, look at Irish dancing that was popularised by the 'Riverdance' phenomenon. Assorted characters offer differing angles to this particular story, showcasing the art's wide-ranging appeal, so there's at least one or two people to barrack for.

Pleasant is an underrated value in moviegoing, and pleasant is a word that describes director Sue Bourne's look at the world of amateur Irish dance competition in spades.

Fine for those predisposed to it, but Jig doesn't spend much time elucidating the steps of Irish dance, and the movie unfurls as a haze of performance footage, with neither much contextual mooring nor ambition in staging.

A toe-tapping triumph for dance fans, though less so for non-converts.

Jig should appeal to dancers of all kinds, but I'm not sure how much replay value it has.
