While the story of this movie was excellent I don't think it was very well executed. I liked it and at the same time didnt, I still dont know what to think really.

This film has a top notch cast, director, and subject: WWII effects upon the survivors. It is unique in that the story follows Russian women who are unexpectedly placed in charge of German survivors (males of course) of the Leningrad siege. The theme is unique for WWII fils as the war has ended and we are left with a Russian female guards with male German prosoners. The premise is that the Russian female guards were lacking sex as their previous inmates were Russian women. The Germans will do that task. John Malcovich plays John Malkovich very well. Vera Farmiga is the prison commandant. She falls in love with her chosen German and that sets the stage for a small nude scene, filmed with class rather than sex. Nice scene, but disappointing; it could have been so much more. I saw little other purpose for the film. The same can be said for the movie as a whole really.

Saw this on Star Movies, and quite an interesting tale, a bit slow at times though. Set against the German invasion of Leningrad, it showcases the bonding between the Women officers at a POW camp for captured German officers and the German prisoners. One of the few WW2 movies that shows it from a POV of the Germans. John Malkovich is deliciously evil as the sadistic Russian camp commandant, and Vera Farmiga proves she is one of the best acting talents around.

Overall I thought this movie sucked but it was an interesting point of view, definitely one you don't see and not one I have ever even thought about.

John Malcovich was true to his abilities of playing a villian type role. However this movie continues to make me disgusted at being a human being. All in all pretty decent movie.
