Inviting photography and a relentless pace complement Claude's unfolding narrative, but the big thrills are in the deftly drawn characters...and the incisive satire...

Great movie! Saw it in Montreal at Nouveau Cinema festival and it was the best. Every teacher of creative writing should see this humor-filled drama about how art's imitation of life can can rupture that life irrevocably. The award-winning script keeps changing your presuppositions so often that you'll finally lose all sense of what's "real." You'll keep thinking about the teacher-student relationship long after the film is over. Extremely reminiscent of Ozon's earlier film, Swimming Pool, but much more accessible - and, to me, more devastating.

In a way "Dans la maison" is a modern adaptation of "One Thousand and One Nights" but 16 year old Claude is not planning to redeem his literature professor, Germain. The old man and his wife will be caught in the everyday day life of Claude's friend, Rafa, and in the end they will not be able to tell what is real and what is fiction. What would you do if your favorite book characters lived in your neighborhood? What if you were a character in your favorite story? How would you be able to cope with reality?
