In Prison My Whole Life (2008)

William Francome is a fairly typical, white middle-class guy. Typical except for the fact that he is about to embark on a journey into the dark heart of the American judicial system; the tangled world of renowned Death Row prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal.

From the opening credits the feeling of dread and empathy is created. From the black screen with the clock slowly ticking away gives you a sene of anxiety and fear. This is what life for Mumia must be. Exept we can leave the cinema and go out into the world where he must face the 4 walls with the false convictions upon him. The presenter goes into it without a sence of biass and this is potrayed over well. A must for documentary fans and those who feel Mumia should finally be released from death row

Essentially a Trojan-horse documentary that purports to deal with the crime, it is actually a discussion on race, politics and the American psyche.

Amber Wilkinson 12 Jun 2008

While some of the testimony, from the likes of Steve Earle and Mos Def is powerful, many of the parallels Francome and Evans attempt to draw feel slightly spurious and their conclusions lack sufficient back up.

Jessica Baxter 29 Jan 2008

It's something you need to see if you don't know anything about Mumia or if, somehow, you missed the notion that bigotry is rampant on the police force.

Tom Huddlestone 23 Oct 2008

This subjective approach subsumes the film's powerful subject, making 'In Prison My Whole Life' just another self absorbed agit-prop documentary.
