."Hugo" is a fictionalized account of a real-life silent film pioneer, Georges Méliès, as seen from perspective of a young boy. While the plot starts slowly, it unfolds and comes together through beautiful imagery. Actors Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen ("Borat") act outstandingly and convincingly. I suspect that due to its predictable appeal to filmmakers, "Hugo" may sway members of the Academy to award it Best Picture . . . but for the general movie-going public, "Hugo" is a still a winner. See it in 3D.

A+ movie. I agree with the reviewers who said it's a kids' movie made for adults as it totally pandered and payed homage to classic films and early filmmaking. More modern kids' movies should be made this artfully. It was shot outstandingly, great musically, and had a great story and lesson. Find your purpose and what makes you happy and immerse yourself in it and share it with the people you care about.
