How to Die in Oregon (2011)
In 1994 Oregon became the first state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. At the time, only Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands had legalized the practice. 'How to Die in Oregon' tell the stories of those most intimately involved with the practice today -- terminally ill Oregonians, their families, doctors, and friends -- as well as the passage of an assisted suicide law in Washington State.

We need right to die laws in each and every state. It's other people wanting to push their beliefs on you that's the problem. I'll decide when my life isn't worth living. My life, my choice.Great movie

I basically sobbed through a good portion of this, but I don't know how you couldn't. Its not a film that asks any real questions of the audience and I don't think it will change any minds about the "right to die" issue. However it presents unflinching scenarios of painful, ugly death and the prospect of choice and control in death. Its moving without ever being overly sentimental or political.

While watching this, Georgia had the opportunity to join Oregon and Washington state to make a suffering process legal for assistant suicide and failed. Many more people need to be aware of one's own pain then thinking selfishly of one's own feelings and painting it as God's will when in fact if it was God's will, no one would suffer as much. A gruesome, but inspiring look at a much better way to say goodbye to the world. Dying with dignity should be celebrated.

One of the most important and personally influential documentaries I've ever seen.
