Too bad the update doesn't come off as good as it should have been, though it comes through as a campy romp and has a few wonderful moments.

Affectionate pastiche of The Old Dark House type set up, notable only for its 24 carat horror cast (all of whom thoroughly commit to the proceeding silliness.) Has some effective moments once the plot finally kicks in (about an hour into the movie), but by then it's slightly too late to make amends for the previous two reels of Desi Arnaz Jr. walking up and down a staircase. Still the film is bathed in a kind of nostalgic glow, not just because of the cast; even the words 'a Golan-Globus production' evoke memories of Cannon cinemas and British films that were more about turning a profit and entertaining audiences (in that order) rather than Film Council funded exercises in social realism.

If you are a fan of classic horror films, this will certainly be a treat! It has Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, John Carradine, and Peter Cushing. Plus there several twists and turns throughout the film that keep you guessing until the end... The Force of Destiny resides in the House of pure nostalgia--A fun, non-pretentious reunion for horror's elder statesmen... Ooh what strange things happen in the night!!

A Price/Lee/Cushing/Carradine lineup should be a harbinger of good things, but the film doesn't even come close to living up to its potential. Arnaz is a weak lead, the low budget is in evidence, and the rather inane story offers nothing of distinction.
