a hardcore midnight cult WTF-fest that's odd, noisy and weird.

A throwback to 1970s horror that just goes to show that 1970s horror directors knew what was up. That's really just a small part of what makes this movie good, though. For roughly the first half hour, it seems like Here Comes The Devil might be little more than a graphic cycle of people having sex and bad things happening, but once things get moving it's so much more restrained, more interesting, and definitely more frightening than that. This is damn good horror.

I think this was better than the tomatometer suggests. It was a fairly slow burn with occasional weak spots, but also some very effective, very creepy scenes. Mostly understated with flashes of violence. It felt quite real at times with a lot of emotional, psychological drama. I wouldn't say it's a great movie, and at times it felt like it should have been pushed further, but it was interesting and for the most part enjoyable.

I'll watch pretty much anything released by Magnet at this point. Some of my personal favs so far are Let the Right One In, Timecrimes, Rubber, Trollhunter, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, and Bad Milo. Here Comes the Devil is one to add to that list. While it certainly has its flaws, I can forgive them because it had something waaaaaaaaaaaay more important. What might that be? My attention. As I watch more and more movies, it takes more and more creativity (aka - weird shit) to draw me in, but this one had me right from the start. Mysterious and disturbing!

Here Comes the Devil is a good mystery movie that keeps you guessing to see what happen. I'm really glad the questions were answered at the end because it look like it was never going to answer them and let the viewers up to interpretation which is fine, but it's not that kind of movie that does it. It's not really scary and it doesn't really try to be scary, it was trying to be more of a mystery film. When the twist is finally revealed, it really did shocked me and I didn't think it would go that route. The slow pace would turn some viewers off, and the viewers have to be patient in order to understand what's going on. But for what it is, Here Comes the Devil is an interesting film that is for mystery fans and a bit for horror fans.
