Hard Gun (1996)

Panna and Tony play members of a desperate gang of thieves who are forced into hiding after a robbery goes wrong; when the police launch a raid on their hide-out, the pair are forced to make a bid for freedom, and in the ensuing battle, Panna's 'brother' is shot and killed. Narrowly escaping the clutches of the law themselves, the duo plan to take revenge on Pitak, the cop who fired the fatal bullet.

not bad, some good comedy moments and decent action

No, not a hardcore gay porno film, but an early film by Tony Jaa... well actually he appears in it for only a couple minutes here and there, but there's lots to love about this one. The Thai sense of humour is peculiar to North Americans, hell I would imagine it's pretty weird to Thai folks as well. The comedy in this film is hilarious. Funny faces when people get hit in the nuts, the dude who beats his wife (believe me, though he nearly kills her, he's so over the top you'll be howling) and the toothless comic relief. Tony Jaa and his boss Panna Rittikrai are villains tracking down a former cop to seek revenge. The final fight between Jaa and the cop are great, but I really leave this film remembering how funny it was. The final scene is a classic in bizarre humour.

I tried to watch this as I'm a fan of Tony Jaa's other films. The acting, effects and general quality of the film are awful. I realise this was one of his early films and as soon becomes apparent had a small budget. Maybe one day I'll give it another shot.

Donâ??t be fooled by Tony Jaaâ??s name on the cover. His role in this film is largely minor. Moreover, the movie is pretty bad. It has its share of action and comedy, but much of it is lame. The story seems to go all over the place and never fully congeals together. Characters are pretty shallow, despite the main characterâ??s constant flashback scene. But the biggest crime is that the movie is very cheap; iffy photography, iffy writing and acting, and cheap production value. They even stole music from the 007 film â??GoldenEye,â?? what the heck?! On the plus side, the film is exceptionally hilarious when you turn the English dubbing on. Overall, itâ??s a cheap and silly film.

Really, it should be half of a star, but the dubbing's so insane I'm upping it to a whole star. (The subtitles are pretty shitty too.) The fighting near the end is okay... The "comedy" is bollocks... That's about it really. Out of the three early Jaa films that I know [and sadly own], I'd say that this one is the worst. And that's saying something!! It truly hammers-in how lucky we were to get Ong-Bak.
