Un film surprenant par l'image du bonheur qui est véhiculée à travers le personnage interprété par Monsieur Jean-Claude Drouot. Si le film est "choquant", qu'il procure une sensation de gène ou de perplexité chez le spectateur c'est grâce au parti pris d'Agnès Varda de ne pas rentrer dans les codes, de ne pas respecter les bonnes moeurs que l'on attend tous au détour de cette histoire. Le film se termine comme il a commencé, comme si rien n'avait changé, comme si le bonheur n'avait pas quitté François. Question réalisation c'est pas commun c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire et c'est très expérimental (des champs/contre champs successifs stroboscopiques, des fondus chromatiques violents mais au combien symboliques...). Bref un film qui a choqué à l'époque et qui interpelle encore aujourd'hui.

This is a film perfectly suited for early spring, with those days of fleeting warmth that spell nothing but a premature "Indian summer," a false spring followed by the one last attempt of winter to destroy as much as it can. Underneath the warm, sunsoaked images of 'Le Bonheur,' underneath their untempered, immature jouissance, lies the inevitable illness that accompanies uninhibited happiness. Varda shows us a manipulative spring, the suffering that waits at the other side of the Lacanian pleasure principle.

Pra mim, o filme tem uma certa áurea de ironia, mas não é nada muito explícito, e é isso que me irritou um pouco. Trata-se de um fato apresentado de forma muito realista, em que o julgamento cabe a cada indivíduo que assistiu ao filme, mas onde há uma ausência do julgamento da própria diretora.

I still remember the first time i saw this movie in my college years and i can say Varda's Le Bonheur was one of the first films that made me love cinema, i still think it is one of the best films of its era. With its excellent cinematography that created scenes resembling Monet's impressionist paintings and the breathtakingly beautiful Mozart strains, Le Bonheur focuses on an idyllically happy Parisian couple and their tragic fate after the husband tries to incorporate his mistress into their relationship to increase the happiness.
