The most pointless documentary ever made. There is no story to speak of just a bunch of random shots spliced together that serve no useful purpose. The audience learns virtually nothing about the three people whose stories are being told.It is an outright travesty that this film was nominated over such a great film as Won't You Be Neighbor. The best words to describe this movie are pretentious and meandering.

Dan Schindel 11 Feb 2018

The doc is more invested in mourners after a burial than in immediate reactions or big events. This is a story made of the in-between pieces of stories.

Kenneth Turan 19 Sep 2018

Hale County This Morning, This Evening, is a poetic documentary with a gift for making enrapturing imagery out of what sound like ordinary, everyday events.

Christopher Gray 26 Mar 2018

Hale County dwells on the beauty of the everyday as it recognizes the fragility of individual lives.

Peter Bradshaw 17 Jan 2019

There is something visionary in this film.
