In the shadowy world of drone warfare, combat unfolds like a video game–only with real lives at stake. After six tours of duty, Air Force pilot Tom Egan now fights the Taliban from an air-conditioned bunker in the Nevada desert. Really makes you think about what it means to have your nation be at war, what it means to have high technology putting a space between you and those you kill, and what it means to be in the armed forces.

I saw Good Kill tonight. It was excellent. Andrew Niccol presented several sides of the issue of drone warfare without asking or pushing the viewer to choose a particular one. Afterwards, Ethan Hawke and Andrew Niccol answered questions with insight, depth, and candor.

8/8/15 Amazon Instant Video A very good film about war, family, our current drone policy and the philosophy of prosecuting that war. What a disconnect between killing in the sterile environment of a trailer and then trying to maintain a healthy home life. Lots of conflicts to absorb in this movie and strong performance from Ethan Hawke. Really liked this one.

Niccol's film won't likely achieve the high-flying box-office success of "Top Gun," but it is similar to that 1986 film in that it will likely get people talking after the closing credits roll.
