The plot is RIDICULO! If we had the capacity for space flight and colonization, why did they decide to take only 4000 people on a "mother ship" to an interplanetary route? We could have formed space stations and bases on the moon, the asteroid belt and Mars; from there (safe bases for humanity) continue to analyze the data of Godzilla and the other kaijus, combining attacks from space. There is no reason to leave the planet and with only 4000 people, the one who thought that strategy must have been political.

Animation proves to be an exemplary medium for this story, particularly the lovely hybrid animation form used here.

I have to admit that the animation in this movie is terrific. It looks amazing as you would expect from a Japanese anime feature. There's also the stock anime melodrama and scale, both aspects that should suit the big green lizard well. However, the meagre story and dreadful script disappoint and fail to deliver some much needed weight to the story. I understand that the intention is that this is the first of a trilogy of movies. Let us hope that the only way is up.
