The first half hour, before the "fun" even begins, is sharp in a way Sayles films haven't been in ages.

Go For Sisters is something of a frustration. It’s the least interesting crime caper ever, and there are fascinating characters forced to go through the motions as if any of us could possibly care.

There are few enough directors with either Sayles' independent streak or his ability to parse the U.S.'s social and political divisions. In the best cases, the combination of the two makes his films vital. Go For Sisters, unfortunately, isn't the best case, even for itself.

However flawed, "Go for Sisters" is worth seeing for diehard John Sayles fans. Sadly, it is not likely to win over any new members to that knowing community of filmgoers.
