At the age of 34, former New Orleans Saints defensive back Steve Gleason was diagnosed with ALS and given a life expectancy of two to five years. Weeks later, Gleason found out his wife, Michel, was expecting their first child. A video journal that began as a gift for his unborn son expands to chronicle Steve's determination to get his relationships in order, build a foundation to provide other ALS patients with purpose, and adapt to his declining physical condition—utilizing medical technologies that offer the means to live as fully as possible.

By no means is this the best documentary ever, but anything that gets me to lose as many tears as 'Gleason' deserves a strong referral. This is about the former NFL player Steve Gleason and his fight against ALS. It's interesting and inspirational while being one of the toughest movies to watch all year. Final Score: 9.7/10

An excellent, compellingly candid documentary about a remarkable man on a remarkable journey. The raw honesty and uplifting inspiration showcased here are astounding, portrayed with an uncensored frankness rarely depicted on screen. Even though the film is at times heartbreaking, its celebration of personal heroism and the spirit to carry on despite the odds is touching, enlightening and mesmerizing.

Watched this on an airplane on the way back home and could not stop sobbing. The story is not only captivating and inspiring, but heartbreaking. Watching the both Gleason himself and his wife overcome all obstacles is heart wrenching. Pure raw emotions and realism.

The man's goodness and his support team's devotion are quickly obvious; Gleason is nearly two hours long. Tweel could get to every uplifting turn his movie makes a bit sooner.
