For No Good Reason (2012)

For No Good Reason a film about Ralph Steadman. Johnny Depp guides the visually stunning journey, smashing narrative conventions, moving seamlessly from interview to animation and in the finest Gonzo tradition questions of witness and authenticity are challenged. Steadman's art is for the first time animated, including illustrations from Hunter S Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas. Featuring Richard E Grant, Terry Gilliam, Bruce Robinson and with music from Slash, The All American Rejects, Jason Mraz, Crystal Castles, Ed Hardcourt and Beth Orton. A touching and at times funny film about honesty, friendship and the ambition driving an artist. This is a true record of the demise of the 20th Century counterculture and hipster dream with Ralph Steadman the last of the Gonzo visionaries.

It's a film that paints a potent portrait of an artist of righteous, controlled fury.

The inventively shot and constructed documentary For No Good Reason is an absorbing look at the unique, surreal work of British cartoonist Ralph Steadman.

An overly pretentious look at one of the greats, pointlessly held together my Johnny Depp...for no good reason. Could have been a lot better we're Steadman's art discussed more than Steadman himself. Moments of artistic clarity bogged down by a slow pace and too much unnecessary filler.

I freaking loved this doc. An amazing mix of funny and tragic and so visually inventive. The animations add a real flavour to the film and Depp is suitable reverential

It is an interesting art documentary with wonderful graphic designs and animation to depict this artist's work. Johnny Depp adds a nice touch as the interviewer and admirer of Steadman's work. I didn't know this artist before watching it but I really found his artwork quite interesting and could tell why people like Depp and Terry Gilliam are big fans of his.
