Floundering (1994)

John Boyz lives close to where they film "Baywatch", but you'd never know it. His life is full of bizarre friends, sweaty sex, pistol wielding gangsters, bungling bureaucrats, police fanatics, revolutionaries, and weirdos. All John wants is a little peace of mind and a little piece of the action, but in "Floundering" it wont come easy.

This super-low budget film has been one of my favorite films for years. Re-watched it the other night, and it still has the same charm, and resonance it did when I first saw it 10 years ago. James LeGros makes, and carries this film. All of the other actors are barely cameos (be warned).

Not very good. I admit I only saw it for Viggo. Blink and you'll miss him.

This one had a surprising amount of stars for such a small indie flick. This is about a man who is completely inside his head. He tries to make sense of the world around him. In doing so he makes a lot of mistakes, doing crack, kidnapping, etc. I really liked it. It was very strange how completely okay he was with his girlfriend openly sleeping with other guys.

Floundering has floundered so thoroughly by the time of this catharsis that it, like everything else in the film, falls flat.

The movie gets a lot of mileage out of a seemingly simple concept.
