Five Children and It (2004)

The Psammead is an 'it', an ancient, ill-tempered sand-fairy with a spider-shaped body, bat-like ears, and snail-like eyes. It is grumpy but has the power to grant one wish a day, which must be made before sunset. Five siblings—Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and infant Hilary—encounter It and experience the highs and lows of frivolous wish-making.

An enjoyable children's fantasy movie, with a very humorous central fantasy character. Even the dialogue in the end credits had me laughing. I'd not heard of it before stumbling across it on TMN Movies on Demand.

I saw this just last year some time. Oh my word, it was a very cute movie!!!! It was sad, but oh my goodness I could have watched this movie all day, The star of the movie was Freddy highmore or Charlie and The Chocolate factory, which was the factor that led me to watch this movie, and I'm glad I did.

Delightful fun. If you like C.S. Lewis with a twist, indulge.

This was alright, but the special effects were not the best and kind of let it down. The acting from the children was quite poor, although Freddie Highmore is always worth watching in anything he does. I loved the book on which it is based, but I think the BBC made a far greater version of it.

Surprisingly good family film, given the corny title. Similar in many respects to "Chronicles of Narnia."
