Genuine human portrayal: a heart warming sentimental insight to the man, the struggle of the times and the men who fought the man in such times (Joe Frazier says the Vietnam war stopped for an hour and half whilst he and Ali fought, and any fight that postpones a war has gotta be good). Good use of music & editing to help contrast some of the raw humanistic flaws and romantise the best attributes of all involved in the what are some of the sports greatest moments.

This is brilliant. The stories of his opponents are, in lots of ways, just as interesting as Ali's. Frazier, Spinks and Foreman are a,, sweet old men for the ferocious fighters that they once were.

Simply put: Facing Ali is a really good documentary. This director gives a fresh take on sports documentaries by interviewing legendary fighers such Larry Holmes, Ken Norton, George Foreman and of course, the mighty Joe Frazier. The twist is that each fighter would desribe their mental process while facing Ali, as well as, the effect the fight had on their career and legacy. Truly worth watching if you are a boxing fan. Other fighers include: George Chuvalo, Ernie Terrell, Sir Henry Cooper, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers and Leon Spinks. I can only hope that this director continues to do these type of films with other fighters such as Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones and other intimidating fighters. I would personally love a Facing Jordan, but we can all dream can't we? Overall solid film, especially since nowadays you can rent a new movie for under a buck!

being a huge fan of Ali, it was really refreshing to see these men tell the tale of the man the beat them. although he didn't defeat Larry Holmes, even Holmes paid homage to the man he used to spar with. i recomment this to any fan of Ali, u will like this...
