Eye of God (1997)

A small Oklahoma town is stripped of its innocence when one of its boys turns up mute and bloodied by the lakeside. Unable to tell his story, the local sheriff embarks on a quest to uncover the roots of a gruesome crime. He's led to Ainsley DuPree and her new husband, Jack, a man whose interest in family may very well outweigh his morals.

This movie disturbed me but it also had such beautiful performances in it by entire cast. I recommend this to anyone.

A strangely haunting movie. The story is fairly straight-forward, but the way the director presents it, in non-linear fashion and told mostly through flashbacks, is pure genius. It creates a menacing, perhaps even "southern gothic" atmosphere. The director's commentary is excellent, highly recommended if you're a movie buff.

Impresses with its ambitious theme, complex structure, well-sustained tension and strong, heartfelt performances.

A great alternative to basic storytelling. Wasn't much wrong with this film at all. A little slow paced and stretched but good.

Set against the vivid backdrop of an Oklahoma oil town in the terminal stages of economic devastation, "Eye of God" is deliberately paced but almost entirely free of nonessential material.
