It's not like we haven't seen plots like this in a 1000 action films starring men, especially those with an martial arts angle. Honestly the only difference here is the fact that protagonist is a woman. Torture, sexualized or workaday, is standard in similar films along with bloodshed, explosions, gruesome deaths, etc. The true misogynists are the critics that simply can't accept a woman as an action hero---or I suppose more accurately a woman driven to desperate violent action in order to save her family from danger. How is that any less emotionally accessible than "they killed my wife and child now I will kill them..." plot that is repeated ad nauseam in countless other? Personally I thought it was solid action movie, and it was especially interesting BECAUSE the hero was female. It's a perspective that is too often missing from films within this genre. Salma Hayek's performance was spot-on. I truly hope to see her in more ass-kicking roles!

Everly most closely resembles the Die Hard movies before they became crap, and of course Hayek is just the right woman to give the genre the attitude it needs.

A relentless onslaught of violent action, this movie is notable mainly because there's a woman at the centre of it, which means that it's entertaining even if it's rather pointless.

It's a ROUGH film that throws everything straight at you from the start. It has some rough TORTURE scenes and very STRONG violence...But, it's worth it.
