Equus (1977)

A psychiatrist, Martin Dysart, investigates the savage blinding of six horses with a metal spike in a stable in Hampshire, England. The atrocity was committed by an unassuming seventeen-year-old stable boy named Alan Strang, the only son of an opinionated but inwardly-timid father and a genteel, religious mother. As Dysart exposes the truths behind the boy's demons, he finds himself face-to-face with his own.

Five good to great movies. [b]The Lion in Winter[/b] is a fierce story of family, politics, and competing wills. Peter O'Toole, Kate Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, Tim Dalton all give great performances. A true thrill to watch and listen to one of the best screenplays ever. Truly. [b]Equus[/b] is equally enthralling. Richard Burton and Peter Firth give brave perfomances in this haunting movie on the inner psyche. In this film a troubled young boy is aided by a psychiatrist, but the experience changes the psychiatrist as much as it does the boy. Julie Taymor's [b]Titus[/b] is a wonder to behold. Her stylization and direction come close to rivaling the text of Shakespeare that appears much abridged. She breathes new life into [b]Titus Andronicus[/b]. Anthony Hopkins gives a master performance. [b]Butterfield 8[/b] stars Elizabeth Taylor in a film that takes a love triangle and throws in all the emotion, passion, fun, disappointment, tragedy that visits real life. [b]Double Indemnity[/b] is a competant crime movie. Charmingly noir, and fun to watch

Just saw this last night for the first time. A mind blow. What incredible screenwriting! And Richard Burton turns in one of the most savvy performances I've ever seen. Intelligent, powerful, extraordinary. Peter Shaffer is a genius.

Not for the weak hearted or the weak minded a phys mystery that shines light on sexuality and religion. An amazing movie that would never be made by the current hollywood system

A great actors film directed by Sidney Lumet a great actor's director. Burton is solid as the psychiatrist and Peter Firth delivers a bravura performance as the young man coming to terms with internal demons. Not everyone's bag but moving film.
