June 1946: Stalin invites Russian emigres to return to the motherland. It's a trap: when a ship-load from France arrives in Odessa, only a physician and his family are spared execution or prison. He and his French wife (her passport ripped up) are sent to Kiev. She wants to return to France immediately; he knows that they are captives and must watch every step.

watched it in french and russian. pretty good i think

the film is very nice, would recomend it to all those who like political echo in the film, but the ending , when you once again realize that it is based on true story just breaks your heart... cruel life

Oleg Menshikov is terrific as usual and this a film that will help one begin to understand life under Stalin.

East/West is an interesting examination of 1946 Russia. A married couple immigrate back to Russia to discover they're carefully being watched by the secret police. The wife makes it her mission to leave the country, but her husband is stopping her from doing so. The film is well shot, carefully acted and evenly paced. Its not 100% fact, but its a very engaging film that's wide scope and epic.
