Dumpster Baby (2000)

A premature crack baby abandoned in an inner city dumpster embarks on a surreal journey through a landscape of urban decay in directors James Bickert and Randy Hills. Left for dead and doomed to die, the helpless child's chances for survival fade with each passing minute. The young infant's will to survive is strong though, and in the following days the struggling child encounters a series of bizarre characters ranging from an adulterous surgeon to a malevolent street pimp and a crack-smoking hooker whose motherly instincts offer a shimmering ray of hope in the child's bleak future.

What a strange an extremely unlikely story, often in very poor taste. It was clearly made on a miniscule budget and it hurts the film. More stupid than it is interesting. The score isn?t too bad. The acting is quite poor though, some do okay, but most do not.

I really hate when such a promising film turns out to be a social commentary. The baby is in all of us, the dumpster, our world....lame.

Congratulations, Richard Linklater. Someone made a half-assed homage to your best movie. Unfortunately, it was a horrible, horrible Troma movie. I was really hoping this would be in the 'so-bad-it's-good' category. I had such high hopes, with the title and all. It just wasn't meant to be. Let me put it in perspective: In high school, my friends and I wanted to make a Hobbit parody called The Bobbit. On grocery store stockboy wages, I think we could've pulled off a higher quality production. The sound quality was so horrible that I couldn't understand some of the dialogue even with my headphones cranked to maximum. I upgraded it from a half dot to a full dot simply for the Linklater tribute and the two times I halfway chuckled at it. The best line: "Bring that baby back to me when it's old enough to suck my dick!" -- Sorry, that's the high point. And only because it's said by an effeminate black gangbanger.

Haute cinema....this is obviously NOT! However, no matter how strong your stomach is, one would at least expect a movie about the misadventures of an abandoned dumpster baby to be a grotesque spectacle that you can't pry your eyes away from! Troma should be ashamed for finding a way to turn such a squeamishly intriguing plot into a slumber-inducing yawn-fest. If you manage to stay awake through this entire 80 minutes, you deserve a medal.

it sounded like it would be the equivalent of the movie 'baby's day out' on heavy drugs. a crack-addicted mom throws her newborn in a dumpster...and from there, various people pick the young'un up and take 'em on an adventure that was absolutely awful. how awful? well, the fact that there's no baby is pretty bad...it's just a bunch of blankets. the story itself isn't any better...i was really hoping to watch a controversial comedy-ish movie about an abandoned baby trying to find a home...what i found was a poorly-made commentary on our society. drat.
