This film is underrated. The current print provides more than a hint of how Welles' would have rendered the story. Welles directing is mischievous. It is possible to argue that the editing is flawed; however, the use of Welles recorded dialog (where it exists) demonstrates good faith. Equally, the quality of the print and dubbing detract from the film and suggest that a remastering (and re-dubbing) is long overdue. Whether the assembly is true to Welles intention is debatable; however, the film provides a useful insight into Welles other unfinished film - 'The Other Side of The Wind'. In fact, the themes Welles explores in his Don Quixote seem to be reflected in this later film that was completed in 2018. This is a film worth preserving.

An oddity, an uneven pastiche of stock footage of Welles himself and bits and pieces of his unfinished film. it has some few funny moments.

This assemblage of Welles's footage by Jess Franco, from 1992, is crude, gappy, and slapdash, but it hardly matters: the pathos of Welles's thinly veiled self-portrait is almost unbearable.

Watched half hour of it, and then had to turn it off... It was pretty bad... I don't know the history of Orson Welles version, and not sure what he was going for.. But this is like the 1950's version of a YouTube short film.. Very amateurish all around (footage, audio, acting)... Not what I expected from the director who gave us "Citizen Kane". Apparently it was unfinished by Mr Welles, and someone else finished it in 1992... They should have just left it in the vaults... The one good point of this is that the main actor looked very much like what i pictured Don Quixote to look like...
