Not too sure what the hell was going on here as there was clearly almost no actual footage done by Orson Welles. What there was was grainy test footage, stock footage, home movies, and the odd shot or 2 of a film mixed together with a narrator, incomprehensible storyline, and horrid dubbing. This is the ultimate rip off and attempt to cash in on a legacy.

WHAT THE FUCK Orson Welles? I saw some moments of absolute brilliance in this film however the lack of following through on them ended up making DON QUIXOTE fall flat on his face. This movie was irritating at best. Hollywood please give TERRY GILLIAM a chance, PLEASE!

If you see this at your local independent movie rental store or on Netflix, run. Unfortunately, Mr. Welles died before he finished it, or made any notes as to his thoughts on its composition. Some poor hack inherited the yards of celluloid and plunked it together. The voice overs are terrible and you have to look long and hard for any striking imagery that you would expect. Hopefully someone someday will get hold of the original material and do something wonderful with it.

There is a good film in there some where. But its hidden under the bad editing and poor dubbing. Jesus Franco was not the person to finish this film for Orson.

The film is an essay on Spain, and also an essay on Welles. Welles shared the Don's magniloquence, boundless self-esteem, ruinous generosity, romantic illusions and moral fervour.
