It’s a brisk blur of a documentary that ventures from “How could a smarter machine not be a better machine?” to “the Faustian bargain” we’ve made with technology that will render 7,000,000 data entry jobs and 4,000,000 driving/transporting jobs (very soon) to medicine, law, journalism and other careers obsolete.

The movie is breezy to a fault. The interviewees are focused and articulate, but aren’t given time to cover more than the basics. Anyone who’s already been following the ongoing conversations about the future of AI won’t learn much new.

This slick gloss on the state of AI is frustratingly scattershot and won't surprise anyone who has been paying attention. But its warnings about how we've dealt with huge and rapid scientific leaps before are worthy ones.

Do You Trust This Computer is informative at the least. Everyone and everything comes off as credible, and the philosophy comes off as plausible. It effectively plants the seeds of paranoia.
