This magnificent documental is an ode to the decay of a system. A system that became corrupted because it was corrupt from the beginning. The Cuban Revolution had its moment precisely because the Russians supported Fidel. But it was crazy. The Cuban society broke just because of the lack of tolerance of Fidel Castro and the Cubans themselves who were crushed and let ourselves be crushed by mediocrity and apathy.

He makes no bones about his leanings, and make no apologies, which lend significantly to the documentary. Whatever your politics, it's a stunning achievement.

Cuba and the Cameraman distills thousands of hours of footage into 113 lively, whirlwind minutes, covering big news events — the Mariel Boatlift; a Castro visit to the United Nations; the Communist leader’s death in 2016 — but also always taking the time to capture the everyday drift of life.

This documentary was truly wonderful. As an American, I did not know what was happening in Cuba over the years and Jon Alpert told his story with love. A must see.

Such a great film! I visited Cuba three years ago- and Jon Alpert did an exceptional job of documenting the culture and the history. It was right in line with my experiences, and I am so grateful this is being shared widely. Muchas gracias!
