Superbly crafted documentary about the disappearance of children on Staten Island that tries to get to the bottom of the mystery. I think one of my favourite aspects of the film is that the creators try to stay as impartial as possible throughout the process and leave the conclusion upto the audience. Is this about a sick demented child killer who is locked away for his crimes? Is it about a loner who conveniently fitted the bill of a 'weirdo' and was duly convicted before any trial even took place? Or is it about Societies failings and the consequences of the appalling treatment that some people suffer? The truth is we'll probably never know, the documentary touches on all these issues and presents a fairly balanced case for all possible outcomes

As it eventually turns into more of a detective story about one single case instead of a blanket study of the "urban legend," of Cropsey, it does not lose any of its strength throughout. The film sheds a lot of light into life in Staten Island during the time that these cases happened, and also presents most of the evidence as it is, without pointing any particular fingers at anyone or any certain solution. The court system eventually made the decision for us, but the story behind it is no less interesting. The filmmakers made a few corny choices about certain scenes, which should've been left out, but it still makes a very interesting and disturbing story that centers around mental health and the way New York had its governmental systems set up to handle patients of this kind.

Utterly chilling examination of the all-too-horrible reality that can lurk behind urban myth. There really are monsters out there among the abandoned buildings in the woods sometimes and, yes, they really are waiting to pounce on your children... sometimes not even leaving a body in their wake.

Very in-depth and personal look at an urban legend that became all to real for two filmmakers as they documented the real-life disappearances of several Staten Island youths and the man that is believed to have been responsible for the horrible crimes. Very well researched and put together. The film is very gripping and disturbing all at the same time. It is scary to think what is lurking around your hometown and unfortunately for the people in this community they found out the hard way. Definitely check this one out!

Creepy, disturbing documentary about the Staten Island urban legend the Cropsey maniac and how it manifested into a true case. Very engaging.
