Dr. Steven Sorenson plans to tap the geothermal energy of the Earth's interior by means of a thermonuclear device detonated deep within the Earth. This experiment causes a crack to form and grow within the Earth's crust, which threatens to split the earth in two if it is not stopped in time.

An entertaining though typically 50s/60s disaster movie that plays it pretty straight. A great performance from movie legend Dana Andrews and some decent effects make it worthwhile.

Harness geothermal energy by firing an atomic missile into the Earth, then halt the resulting cataclysm by nuking a volcano! Lots of fun to be had here with a romantic triangle between two hilariously hard men of science and the hair-helmeted woman who loves them. Dana Andrews lays on the bluster in an agreeable manner, making his disintegration all the more amusing.

Wonderful vintage Sci Fi disaster film as scientists trigger the end of the world and then have to find a way to save it after their meddling! Very enjoyable and a great cast too.

americans think they own the whole world and will do anything for money, who cares how many die or what happens to the environment. then when they fix some of the problems that they themselves have caused, they think they are big heros!
