Cocoon: The Return is so tired, in fact, that it can barely recapitulate the winning formula of the original hit.

Obviously a step down from the original and even from Halloween II. H4 revives Michael Myers who was AWOL in HIII: Season of the Witch with gimmicky and clichéd plots. The themes present in H4 are mostly borrowed from the original, which isn't a bad thing, but without Jamie Lee Curtis or John Carpenter's involvement everything just feels a bit tacked on. Donald Pleasence's return as Dr. Loomis makes is bearable to watch, but just barely.

I actually liked this one more than the original. I think this one is less awkward than the first and has more of a message to it dealing with immortality. Elaine Stritch steals the show as the new addition to the cast and Jessica Tandy really is a stand out in this one. Jack Gilford is great just like he was in the first and Wilfrod Brimely too. I just felt like this one really had more to it in terms of a plot and a look on life itself.

Until Halloween H20, this would be the last good entry in the series. It saw the return of Michael Myers, as per the film's title, and introduced a new victim rather than continuing the plot of the first two films. Halloween 4 doesn't do as well as Halloween I+II, but it still stands out to me as one of the better slasher movies of the 80s, especially when compared to the Friday the 13th franchise, and worse yet, Halloween 5+6, two of the worst horror films of the 80s and 90s respectively. But that's not what this review is about. It's about Halloween 4, a good movie that I like for the most part, but has one outstanding flaw- its two sequels. That's all there is to say.

This is a great sequel. Just as good as the original. The original cast are back in this as well. The story is basically the same. The only difference is they are back on earth visiting. If you liked the first film then you should enjoy this as well. A good mix of comedy, drama and Sci-fi.
