Cinderella Baiana (1998)

A poor family, lives in a city near Salvador. The father is cleaner and, mother and daughter help making small services. Until they decide to try the luck in the big city and the father, João, get a job near Pelourinho, next to a dance academy. The daughter, Carla, in contacting music, discovers her true vocation and becomes a very successful dancer. But she does not let himself take away from fame and back to his origins, meets with poor children and teaches them to dance.

Isso é um clássico desapreciado do nosso cinema nacional, uma jóia perdida entre a enxurrada de filmes da Globo! Se bem que dizer que o filme é trash é eufemismo, nao há palavras para descrever. Mas nao importa, é divino! Joga no orkut que tem pra baixar lá.

Best brazilian picture of the movement of "retomada" of the "tupiniquim" cinema. Perez shows herself as a soft surprise, with a bright and touching work as the modern cinderella. The plot is innovative, since instead of losing his cristal slipper, she loses her brain. A Meireles's movie, featuring Fernanda Montenegro as the old lady who dies from a stroke when the cinderella spells "escola" as "i-s-c-o-l-a". A "must-see", definetely.
