Predictable, regurgitated themes that work because they are beautifully rendered in this film. Complex characters. Intriguing story development. The only drawback is the over-the-top, highly melodramatic and pretentiously operatically styled ending.

Dickensian in style, and not without a dash of Kafka, the film is beautifully shot by Rogier Stoffers and Mike van Diem's direction and screenplay are nigh perfect.

Even though you know the ending upfront. The movie takes you on an interesting journey. It acomplishes this with unconventional characters. and powerful moments, both subtle and not so subtle, in nature along the way. Recommended.
