Call Northside 777 (1948)

In 1932, a cop is killed and Frank Wiecek sentenced to life. Eleven years later, a newspaper ad by Frank's mother leads Chicago reporter P.J. McNeal to look into the case. For some time, McNeal continues to believe Frank guilty. But when he starts to change his mind, he meets increased resistance from authorities unwilling to be proved wrong.

Now this is what I'm talking about. Classic Hollywood newspaper flick. Fantastic photography and lighting. James Stewart is brilliant as the reporter. They don't make them like this no more...

Call Northside 777 is a very interesting story about a newspaperman trying to prove a man's innocence after he is sentenced to life for murder. Call Northside 777, like most Jimmy Stewart films, is well worth your time.

Appreciated it so much especially because it was true story..and loved the documentary feel at times..good performances too

A glimpse into the Polish immigrant community in Chicago? Stewart's character going from skeptical to sympathetic? Police corruption? Giving the inventor of the lie detector a cameo so he can explain how his machine works? You try to pull a viewer into too many directions and the whole thing starts to become tedious.

Excellent crime thriller with a style that is very believable and unique for the time. The performances are superb, especially Kasia Orzazewski in a smal role and James Stewart. Excellent writing, exceptionally well developed story.
