Great movie, Egoyans best, and what a director he is. Beautiful story with clever story telling.

Not so well known, but the best of the Egoyan films I've seen. A carefully constructed, subtly observant and sometimes witty film.

On first viewing, I find this easier to "appreciate" than actually enjoy. That Egoyan was able to shoot a resonant film in Armenia for ~$100,000 is a miracle by almost any standards. The structure (especially if you've read next to nothing about the film) is initially confusing, but later, you realize it couldn't have worked any other way. Although I think Ceylon's "Climates" is a superior film, "Calendar" looms heavily. While they don't share the same rigid structure, they explore almost identical themes. Next time it'll be a double feature.

The beautiful imagery and touching relationships are off-set by confusing and dumb scenes in the dinning room with a succession of gorgeous women who get up to answer the phone. Still, an interesting piece of cinema.

An interesting portrait of an artist whose detachment from the world and his own experiences has dire consequences.
