A nuclear warhead launched by Soviet insurgents protesting the waning Cold War destroys the Ukrainian city of Donetsk. The destruction sets off a race between American and Soviet politicians to prevent a nuclear holocaust. While the U.S. president feverishly works to keep the military and political machine from going into overdrive, various subordinates panic. When the president is believed to be killed in a helicopter crash, zealous advisers take over.

This looked about as good as an 80's TV film. It's not. This is a surprisingly GREAT film!!!

what would you do if you had to drop an a-bomb & kill millions of people? what would our president do if our so-called friend, Russia dropped an a-bomb on us with no warning to start WWIII??? Something to ponder.......

a really good tv movie akin to the Day After and Dr. Strangelove scenarios of WW3 of the USA VS the Soviet Union and the normalcy of living under the gun of mutually assured destruction.

This is a TV movie that puts quite alot of similar big budget movies to shame. Well acted, good script, and depicts emotion to the highest level. If you have not seen this film rent it or buy it. Its effects are slighly dated and its one film, if they stayed true to the story and overall characters, that would be a worthy remake considering the current climate and hostility we are facing today against the war on terror. I for one rate this a 5 star movie due to its quality, as you can see it averages 4 stars and would make a suitable partner to your collection of Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games. A real MUST SEE

A kind of "Dr. Strangelove" without the laughs. Entertaining enough for one of those rainy nights when there's nothing better to do.
