How did the guy who made “Gremlins” and “The Howling” direct this cheap-looking, sophomoric, unfunny dreck?

A waste of a talented cast and director, Burying the ex has a few chuckles but is far too predictable and tonally jarring to become memorable or funny.

a slow starting movie that feels a little odd. the last half is better and funny despite the sluggish start. Yelchin feels like he lacks motive to be interested he movie and sometimes just speaks like he is trying to get through with it. there were moments that the dialogue felt so out of place like they were trying for funny but went for just rude and blatant crudeness. not a terrible watch but not the best either.

Joe Dante does all he can to salvage a mostly pallid script and a somewhat boring cast. His typically energetic direction makes it palatable, but he could certainly be doing bigger and better things with his time.

Very fun movie, if you're into the zombie genre flick. You can't go wrong with a Joe Dante film.
