A strange mystery from the '60s about an American woman (Carol Lynley) whose young daughter goes missing in London. Or does she? Laurence Olivier plays the policeman working the case and Keir Dullea ('2001') is the missing girl's uncle. The ending goes on too long but by then you'll be hooked.

Fantastic late Preminger film. It's paranoid, sleazy, and lurid. It's also perfectly framed and composed.

I laughed almost non-stop through the last 30 minutes which, I'm fairly sure, I wasn't suppose to laugh at. Now this is how you go off the rails!

An overrated Otto Preminger flick saved by good cinematography and an exceptional Olivier performance.

Gripping and creepy, with excellent direction and camerawork by Preminger. He creates tremendous unease throughout. That said, the film does go off the deep end once the "solution" to the mystery is revealed. While somewhat entertaining in its own way, the end is much more campy and over the top than the subtle set-up that has come before it.
