Stephen Dorff's energetic performance cannot compensate for the minimalism of the plot.

Dorff is stellar and the film builds some tension but a bit too much required suspension of disbelief, some plot holes, weak dialogue, and two increasingly silly twist endings ultimately sink the piece.

The film comes ridiculously close to the brink of greatness, but the last minute of Brake sends the film crashing and burning to the ground. Such a shame. It was so close.
