Brad's Status (2017)

Although Brad has a satisfying career, a sweet wife and a comfortable life in suburban Sacramento, things aren't quite what he imagined during his college glory days. When he accompanies his musical prodigy son on a university tour, he can't help comparing his life with those of his four best college friends who seemingly have more wealthy and glamorous lives. But when circumstances force him to reconnect with his former friends, Brad begins to question whether he has really failed or if their lives are actually more flawed than they appear.

When explored by writer-director Mike White’s expert, soulful script, Brad, against all odds, becomes a sympathetic figure, and the film itself achieves a sort of poetry.

John Serba 22 Oct 2017

Stiller's performance is funny and substantive, a subtle portrait of middle-age, middle-class, white-guy anxiety existing somewhere between his best commercial comedy roles and prickly indies.

Logan M 27 Jan 2018

A comedy about a variety of ideas: self-worth, white privilege, the way parents project themselves on their kids, and how people separated by generational divide don't always share similar ideals.

Carlos Díaz Reyes 14 Nov 2017

A very interesting and even moving work with excellent performances. [Full Review in Spanish]

Brad's Status is White's second admirable screenplay this year after Beatriz at Dinner, each rapier sharp about human conditions. This script brings out Stiller's best, meaning his characters' worst. Midlife crises this well-written and performed never grow old.
