On the night of Oct. 2, 2005, Hart and Dana Perry's 15-year-old son Evan jumped to his death from his New York City bedroom window. This moving film is the story, told by his filmmaker parents and others who knew him, of Evan's life and death, and his life-long struggle with bipolar disorder. It delves into the complexity of Evan's disease, sharing his family's journey through the maze of mental illness. In showing how one family deals with generations of loss and grief, the film defies the stigma related to mental illness and suicide and tells a human story that touches everyone.

Really heartbreaking story about bipolar disorder. The one part where the psychiatrist says that bipolar disorder is the killer of young people. Oh man...

While the film may lack the precision and sharp editing as can be seen in more impressive indie-documentaries such as Dear Zachary, Boy Interrupted is nevertheless an effective movie that is important to watch. Its incredibly detailed and honest accounts of people who most closely observed the deeply disturbed, late Evan Perry brings a sense of credibility and realism to the mental illness that is often overlooked and claims many lives, even to this day. It is admittedly a difficult movie to sit through, but it is one that should not be passed.

Wonderful documentary about a family dealing with their child's mental illness that eventually leads to his sucide. The movie follows the child's life from his parents view and discusses in detail how he and his family deals with him having bi-polar. This movie will engross you and you will utimaletly feel for this family. I recommend that people dealing with bi-polar, depression and sucide watch it.

Boy Interrupted is a remarkable, deeply unsettling documentary about the life of Evan Perry, an uncommonly bright, talented boy from New York who committed suicide at age 15.
