On the night of Oct. 2, 2005, Hart and Dana Perry's 15-year-old son Evan jumped to his death from his New York City bedroom window. This moving film is the story, told by his filmmaker parents and others who knew him, of Evan's life and death, and his life-long struggle with bipolar disorder. It delves into the complexity of Evan's disease, sharing his family's journey through the maze of mental illness. "there isn't a choice to cope" A tremendously sad and heartfelt documentary looking at the life and tragic suicide of a young teenage boy. With such a personal and distressing subject matter, you might expect those involved to tread with caution and hold something back but that's not the case here. The film's strongest achievement is its honesty. It's that honesty that allows us to see ourselves in their shoes or in Evans and it's stories like this that stay with you. This is a film where you will learn something, just as long as you're willing to take the lesson.

Boy, Interrupted is really one of the most intimate and heartbreaking looks inside mental illness I've seen. Dana, a filmmaker and mother tells the story of her son, Evan who battled Bi-Polar Disorder, and Depression only to end his life at the tender age of 15. So much detail and care went into the film as Dana Perry recounts her son's life in the various treatments centers were he sought help, in the public schools where he overcame his problems and began to excel, and through very gut wrenching interviews with Evan's friends, and family including Dana herself. It is a give in that by the end of the film you will be in tears, as we learn of the last few hours of Evan's life, his legacy, and the family he left behind. For those who enjoy a good documentary then this is a really great one to watch, especially if you have loved ones suffering from mental illness.

A really sad documentary about a boy who commits suicide at fifteen. Once the dosage on lithium was lowered he started getting depressed again and then jumped out of his window. Unfortunately it ran through the family, the boys uncle also committed suicide. Overall really sad story but very well done.

this is one of the best documentaries i've ever seen. by the end, you feel attached to the family without even knowing them. heartbreaking and very honest. it should be required viewing for anyone that finds themself or someone they know in this kind of situation.
