On the night of Oct. 2, 2005, Hart and Dana Perry's 15-year-old son Evan jumped to his death from his New York City bedroom window. This moving film is the story, told by his filmmaker parents and others who knew him, of Evan's life and death, and his life-long struggle with bipolar disorder. It delves into the complexity of Evan's disease, sharing his family's journey through the maze of mental illness. In showing how one family deals with generations of loss and grief, the film defies the stigma related to mental illness and suicide and tells a human story that touches everyone.

Very sad, but very good. People who can't comprehend what mental illness or depression can do to a person should watch this.

Really heartbreaking story about bipolar disorder. The one part where the psychiatrist says that bipolar disorder is the killer of young people. Oh man...

"there isn't a choice to cope" A tremendously sad and heartfelt documentary looking at the life and tragic suicide of a young teenage boy. With such a personal and distressing subject matter, you might expect those involved to tread with caution and hold something back but that's not the case here. The film's strongest achievement is its honesty. It's that honesty that allows us to see ourselves in their shoes or in Evans and it's stories like this that stay with you. This is a film where you will learn something, just as long as you're willing to take the lesson.
