Conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton were once the cream of the sideshow crop. Taught to sing and dance at an early age, the winsome duo ascended through the early 20th-century vaudeville circuit as a side attraction (working alongside Bob Hope and Charlie Chaplin as well as a memorable turn in the Tod Browning classic "Freaks") before a cascade of unscrupulous management and harsh mistreatment brought their careers (and lives) tumbling down. Definitely a heart-warming story about two sisters beating the odds, and about the triumph of the human "blah blah". It's definitely a very interesting watch, and director Leslie Zemeckis... wait a second is she related to Robert Zemeckis? I'll fact check later. Zemeckis does a great job of keeping the film feeling fresh and exciting by creatively using old footage with new interviews. Yes, it's a common tactic, but Zemeckis' brand seems to be a little more interesting than the usual documentary lot.

The other aspect of Bound by Flesh that works so well is its compassionate portrait of two women who were, briefly, famous for their beauty despite their unconventional bodies.
