A group of white mice (who drink blood tea) steal a doll belonging to a clan of rodents in this dialogue-free stop-motion feature. Beautiful and imaginative, with hallucinogenic berries, a frog sorcerer, and a near-perfect mix of surrealism and fairy tale darkness. People say it again and again, but it's the perfect description: BLOOD TEA is like a lost Jan Svankmajer film.

A cute and imaginative parable of human nature, with surrealist and expressionist elements. One of the better films in its class of peres such as 'Alice' and 'The Collected Shorts of Jan Svankmajer.'

Often grotesque, though never in the "Sick and Twisted" juvenile gross-out mode, dreamlike feature is as lovingly crafted as it is unsettlingly sour-sweet, with Mark Growden's avant-garde folk score in perfect synch.

This movie was obviously a labor of love for director/creator Christiane Cegavske, who spent over 10 years making it. Filled with slightly unsettling stop-motion woodland folk, including the very creepy white mice (who drink copiously of the promised "blood tea"), the lovable Creatures Who Live Under the Oak, and, my favorite, the Black Widow spider, complete with severe librarian-style hairdo.

Delightfully weird and creepy stop motion, refreshingly short and sweet.
