Blood in the Water (2016)

Percy and Veronica have been housesitting at a palatial modern spread in the Hollywood Hills for the summer, but the real world of New York, jobs and young professional struggles are merely days away. Nonetheless they are in a hurry to leave this paradise, because the tranquility was broken by an unwanted visit by former college classmate Freedgood. His time since their liberal arts' years has been marked by imprisonment, shady business associations, and drug dealing. And as we learn quickly, this has lead to the man's demise, an interested LAPD detective, and a longing for the everyday strife that seems so much more desirable than staying in their false Eden.

Blood in the Water is the perfect blend of suspense and visual appeal. Directors Orson and Ben Cummings do an incredible job artistically portraying a rivalrous love triangle and their journey full of twists and turns. Using Hollywood Hills created a captivating set design to base this intense thriller embodying the glamorous, corrupt LA lifestyle. Willa Holland, Alex Russell and Miguel Gomez all gave strong performances bringing the chemistry to life, I'd love to see them in more works. The result is a sexy, engaging plot with an equally stunning cast and set. I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.

Blood in the Water stars Willa Holland and Alex Russell, as Veronica and Percy, respectively, a young couple who are spending their summer making money house sitting a lavish Hollywood Hills mansion, a place they could clearly never afford on their own. They get wrapped up in the shady world of drugs and betrayal when Veronica’s ex-boyfriend, Freedgood, arrives and blackmails Percy into helping him with a major drug deal. The film perfectly captures the Los Angeles beauty and lifestyle, from multiple views of the skyline to the incredible production design to the attractive, up and coming cast. With breathtaking visuals and a plot that will have you on the edge of your seat, it’s the perfect date-night film.

Trilling movie to the end. Plot does not give away an ending so it keeps you interested the entire movie. Visually appealing and exciting. You won't be disappointed.

Solid cast, beautifully shot and well written. I wasn't expecting much and only went to see it because a friend was persistent but I liked it so much I felt compelled to write this review, something I rarely do. For an indi film, the esthetic of the final product comes off very polished. There's a fresh, raw energy present but in the context of a gorgeous esthetic, which makes for a striking combination. I know I'll see it again in theaters and will probably buy it when I can. Hats off to everyone who made it happen, you really pulled it off nicely.

Nearly every shot of Blood in the Water looks like it could be some band’s album cover. And when it comes to stylish crime pictures, appearance counts.
