A grittily entertaining and thoughtful example of just how good a western can be..an outlaw tale that is at once exciting and elegiac, elegant and earthy.

Blackthorn is a good Western because you don't realize that blackthorn is really Butch Cassidy and that he was hiding from Spaniards. B+

Grandioso western de la vieja escuela facturado en España(increible pero cierto). Un sensacional Sam Shepard como un avejentado Butch Cassidy y un no menos genial Eduardo Noriega sazonan una historia con un cierto toque decadente. Y un productor totalmente inesperado:Enrique Bunbury!!!

Watching Shepard work his pony down a snaking mountain pass, playing a mandolin and singing the blues, or seeing him sitting, stone-still, beneath a railroad water tank, waiting for something to happen - these are scenes to be cherished, from an actor who has found the soul of the character he's playing.

Liked this revisionist western. The writer/director obviously wanted to play with the genre, and I think they succeed in making a pretty unconventional story. The problem is, it's just not that compelling, which seems to be a problem with a lot of these types of films. Still, I'm a sucker for a western. It's also beautifully shot and scored, and Sam Shepard is a good choice for the lead.
