Bikes vs Cars (2015)

Bikes vs Cars depicts a global crisis that we all deep down know we need to talk about: Climate, earth's resources, cities where the entire surface is consumed by the car. An ever-growing, dirty, noisy traffic chaos. The bike is a great tool for change, but the powerful interests who gain from the private car invest billions each year on lobbying and advertising to protect their business. In the film we meet activists and thinkers who are fighting for better cities, who refuse to stop riding despite the increasing number killed in traffic.

Breezy, intelligent, diffuse but uncluttered, Fredrik Gertten’s documentary Bikes vs Cars could be called a tale of congestion-plagued cities.

Martin Tsai 03 Dec 2015

Although the film qualifies as an advocacy documentary, director Fredrik Gertten has put in the time to capture how these cities' unique scenarios unfold to mount a compelling case against the powerful automotive, oil and construction lobbies.

Interesting documentary on how we live and commute around our cities and the conflict of cars and bikes on the road. Cars backed by big business like oil, developers and car manufacturers have essentially killed public transport and created gridlock on many of our towns and cities around the world. The humble bike is part of the solution. Worth a look

Ken Eisner 24 Aug 2015

The film's message is certainly distressing -- there's no way humans can survive this collective auto-da-fé -- but at least the ride is fun.

Jennie Kermode 16 Nov 2015

It might benefit... from taking on and deconstructing more of the opposing arguments, rather than simply relying on forwarding those of the cyclist lobby.
