A newspaper publisher, wanting to prove a point about the insufficiency of circumstantial evidence, talks his possible son-in-law Tom into a hoax in an attempt to expose ineptitude of the city's hard-line district attorney. The plan is to have Tom plant clues leading to his arrest for killing a female nightclub dancer. Once Tom is found guilty, he is to reveal the setup and humiliate the DA.

Good movie with Deborah Kerr moving in an old house as a governess for two small children. However she soon discovers something sinister regarding the children.

Sometimes considered a late period noir, but really a dressed up murder/court mystery with TV drama aesthetics, typical of B-films of the late 50's. Aging master Fritz Lang keeps things interesting, despite a weak performance from a past his prime, alcoholic, Dana Andrews. Lang's last American film.

This is good, thoughtful, 'what if' courtroom thriller stuff. Will seem slow today but it's well worth the effort.

Starts off as a fairly run-of-the-mill thriller, but director fritz Lang lives up to his reputation with a great twist at the end. Dana Andrews plays the flawed hero, Joan Fontaine his girl, and Barbara Nichols the showgirl who comes between them.
