The broader political questions aren't addressed, but Cedar successfully conveys the boredom, fear and claustrophobia experienced by his conscript characters.

Whilst it's easy to draw similarities between this and Hurt Locker; Beaufort is as unique a war film as it is different. Set on a remote mountain top in Lebanon, a team of young soldiers keep guard of a small military outpost. Under daily mortar fire, they live an isolated and dangerous existence. As the film progresses and the team diminish, the hope that they will survive long enough to get off their bleak fortification also diminishes. The tension rises as they lose reason for even being there and with that, faith in their command. Beaufort is a very different war film, with an unseen enemy and tension brought about as much from their isolation and claustrophobic living environment as the desperation they all begin to feel as one by one they fall victim to the increased levels of attack against them. I really enjoyed this film and find the direction astute and interesting.

An atmospheric drama about a military hotspot haunted by several decades' worth of ghosts, and the tenacious soldiers left behind, trying to avoid being picked off one by one... In truth, Cedar's film winds down after an hour, and the cycle of violence it describes can be summed up in two lines of a song one soldier sings ("Father cries over son/Son cries over father"), but there are scenes you won't have seen in any other combat drama: witness the grunts being confronted with the double-edged sword of increased bunk space as yet another of their colleagues passes away.

good film, the production value nd the realizm were all there, cinematography great, grainy and always made you feel like you were there, in the same way though it made the movie somewhat monotonus, the film drug on at times, and there was also a sense of what's the point, a great first time watch but not much replay value.
