Beaufort is a psychological war film that's trying to answer the question of why we fight. A "stranger in a strange land" sense makes the participants less connected and further strips their human element.

Saw this after reading the book. The film does a good job of putting you in the shoes of the soldiers, living through the monotony of endless mortar shells, guarding a post that is about to be abandoned and wondering what the point of staying is. I wish it had been a little more faithful to the book, but obviously time constraints limited it. Also, the soundtrack reminded me how much I don't like the Israeli approach to scoring films.

A good depiction of a modern conflict which is 'pointless' in so many ways for those fighting it in this micro study. Without any political depictions, it has a deep political message.
