Audience of One (2007)

The film follows the story of a San Francisco Pentecostal minister Richard Gazowsky on his quest to shoot a groundbreaking fantasy film called Gravity: The Shadow of Joseph (described by him as "Star Wars meets The Ten Commandments"). The film follows him and members of his church as they go through pre-production and fly to Alberobello, Italy, for initial shooting that turns out to be marred with difficulties.

A great documentary about a San Fransisco pastor who convinces his congregation that they need to make a $50m sci-fi epic about Joseph because God 'told him to'. With no skills, dubious investments and blind (for that read stupid) faith, they go off and try to make a movie. What you see on screen is the car crash that ensues. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so scary - this man has replaced logic, common sense and obeying the law with faith based reality. He genuinely believes he should do what the voices in his head tell him to, because it is God's will. Years ago people like this would have been locked up, now they run churches. I doubt this will ever get a mainstream release but if you get the chance to see it on TV or at a film festival do so. It will enlighten you and make you fearful at the same time.

It's "small" documentary time again. Brilliant flick. On one hand I felt sorry for the guy and his followers , but on the other I was quite scared by their complete ignorance and blind faith..... This time, it's making a movie , tomorrow it might as well be something more sinister..... Recommended !

This was an interesting look into someone's slow descent into delusion and madness. It was also a good example of how not just anyone can make a film. It was a bit on the slow side, but it was an interesting watch if this is your sort of thing.
