Although it veers dangerously into whitewash territory several times, the movie wears its heart on its sleeve, which is appropriate for a film full of Springfield's poppy hard-rock music and the unbridled enthusiasm of his loyal fans.

An Affair of the Heart tells the story of a man so plagued by his own inner demons that he sometimes cannot even recognize the reach of his influence. Rick Springfield is his own worst enemy. Like in his book, "Late, Late at Night", Springfield talks of the flaws that lead to a failed suicide attempt, infidelity and ultimately his exit from the music business to confront his depression. Remarkably, when he returned to the stage, his devoted fans were still there. This movie wasn't made to break new cinematic ground or give the viewer some earth shattering epiphanies. It simply tells a love story - a love story between a performer and his fans, the friendships forged by a shared devotion and the connections we can all achieve as human beings when we simply just stop to listen to the music and be kind to one another. To say otherwise is just cynical and sad which this film is definitely NOT. You do not need to be a fan of Rick Springfield to appreciate the HEART of the message in An Affair of the Heart. You just need to be a human being that has one.

I saw this screening of "An Affair of the Heart" for the first time yesterday at The Boston Film Festival. At first I thought "eh, it's just another film about another rock star!" But this was more than that. As a fan of Rick Springfield for 30+ years I have to admit this was incredible! I have my own story where I too have connected with Rick on more than just a fan related level. So I can certainly understand the fans in this film and how Rick has impacted their lives. As well as my own! I laughed during the film and even at times even cried during this film because I know just what kind of caring, kind hearted, friendly, down to earth human being Rick really is. He absolutely ADORES his fans.. ALL OF US!!! I absolutely recommend if you are a fan, or even if you are not. This is a great documentary that touches on so many levels and is worth seeing! I really hope this movie is released nationwide because I would certainly love to see it over and over again. And will most definitely buy it if it is released on DVD.

I loved this movie! It was so much fun to revisit the awesomeness of RIck Springfield and be reminded of what a truly great musician he is. And a complex and interesting person. The fans are amazing- a very colorful, dedicated passionate group-validates the teenager still very much alive n all of us!!!
